Combating Queer Stigmas; A Future of Acceptance

Written By: Tracy Issa

Through experiencing the maltreatment of my queer friends, alongside witnessing how my queer sister was wrongfully treated, my eyes were abruptly opened to the harsh realities that many in the LGBTQ+ community face. It was truly heartbreaking to see the overt discrimination and exclusion that often stemmed from erroneous ignorance and prejudice.

My friends, who should have felt safe and accepted, were subjected to bullying and derogatory comments simply for being who they are. Similarly, my sister's experiences made it clear that there is a significant lack of support and understanding for queer individuals.

I wanted join this club (Q+) to create a space where queer students could thrive, feel valued, and connect with one another. Joining Q+ seemed like the perfect way to help students feel more comfortable and accepted within our school community.

The club not only provides educational and networking opportunities, but also thoughtfully organized fun events to foster the student community. By hosting workshops, discussions, and social gatherings, the club creates an environment that celebrates diversity and promotes respect for all identities.

I candidly believe that our club helps combat the stigma and discrimination that many face, thus creating a more inclusive atmosphere where everyone can express themselves freely and authentically.

Every student in our school should feel welcomed, accepted, and above all, feel supported by institutions in this school. I am committed to playing a prominent role in making that vision a reality.
